The February Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction just arrived with my story, "Boon," in it. All about elves, brownies, and runaway single mothers living on the lower-east-side of New York City. Always nice to see my words in someone else's typeface.

Today I went out with YG to buy some fleece for a present she was making for her sister for Christmas. She settled on a red fleece with teddy bears, and the present (a pillow) is adorable. But there was a wide range of fleece to select from--many in baby prints, obviously intended for baby blankets and buntings. One of the fleeces we saw and didn't choose really made we wonder, though: it was a deep royal purple with big red and pink hearts and, in neon green, the word Jesus. What would you use this for? It's not exactly soft cuddly swaddling clothes, the color is too loud for a layette, the word a good eight inches across and five inches tall--too big for an older child's jacket. A comfy throw for the bed, perhaps?

I am not, you know, casting aspersions on anyone's religion. I just find this a particularly odd way of expression religious feeling.
