madrobins: It's a meatloaf. Dressed up like a bunny. (Default)
Tonight I'm flying off to New York, where I will touch my home ground again. Since I am devoted to my home town (I even wrote a fantasy about New York) I am vibrating with joy. But I will also get to see my editor, the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] alg, and [livejournal.com profile] pnh and [livejournal.com profile] tnh and a whole horde of other old friends. I will drive up to Massachusetts on Friday, dropping in on my agent as I go; when I get to Massachusetts I'm doing some house-related stuff (talking to the roofer, meeting with the well-guy, and checking in with my tenant). Then, on Saturday, I'm giving a lecture (!!) at the retirement community my father lives in--he's got a whole afternoon planned: my lecture, a cocktail party, and dinner! Sunday I drive back to Newark and fly back here.

But some of the time I'm in New York I'm simply going to walk around, savoring the compression, the noise, the dirt, the people. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but New York is my Lapsang Souchong.
