No Sit My Hugenot
13/10/05 10:08Poor Charles Dickens. Did he ever, in his wildest dreams, imagine that his words would be used to disguise spam in the 21st century? More than half the spam I get seems to have chunks of David Copperfield buried in it. It's a sobering thought for a writer: assuming my work survives me (no small assumption, alas), to what strange public domain uses will it be put?
Also: sometimes the random word strings used in the subject lines of spam e-mails are very evocative; "No sit my Hugenot" sounds like a third tier sweeping historical saga published in the 1950s. I also like "Your umbilici fame auberge," although I can't quite tell what it means. Anyone else have a thought?
