Via Rachel Maddow: it appears that one of the victims of the LA Fitness gym shooting last month, a 22-year-old recent college graduate, has no health insurance. So: she gets shot, has to get taken care of, and now has hell's own medical bills to commemorate what must be the worst day of her life. What's a girl to do?
Well, her friends threw her a car wash to raise money for her medical bills. Which is sweet, don't get me wrong. But if we have to throw a bake sale or a car wash or put PayPal banners on our websites every time someone gets sick, we kinda forfeit our right to be considered a civilized country.
