She Coulda Danced All Night

Avocado spent the time after her promotion ceremony hanging with her friends, having lunch at Mel's Diner, etc. Came home briefly to get her ticket for the dinner-dance held for eighth graders at her school, which she said was "fab" (man, I don't think any of the equivalent fetes held for kids of my age when I was young could have been described that way), and then...

...well, I had told her before hand that I had the Borderlands thing. I asked her to ask some friends for lifts; she countered that she was hoping to arrange a sleepover. This was all well in advance of the evening. At nine o'clock, when the Borderlands thing was over, I called to see what was up. "Hanging with friends. Looking for a ride." Okay. We went out to dinner, she and I exchanged texts, she was still a little cagey about what was happening ("We're going to Starbucks. I think.") so I said I'd call when we were done with dinner. At ten she was still hanging out on, I intuit, a street corner with her friends. They were going to take a bus to Noe Valley. "I can get home from there." At which point I said No. Because, while her Muni-Fu is strong, she doesn't know that after 10 or so the bus service goes down to near-naught. And she'd still have to walk a block or two home from the bus stop. In her graduation dress (chiffon, with spaghetti straps) and sandals. At what would probably be post-midnight.

We had finished dinner. I went and picked her up. Today she goes to the beach for 8th grade bonfires...they are not burning teachers in effigy.
